Pit Run

Base

Base Aggregate is a graded material typically sized at 1-1/2" and smaller, containing a blend of coarse stone and fines. This mixture allows the material to compact tightly and create a stable foundation layer. Common types include granular subbase, pit run, MS backfill, and road base. It’s used for building pads, driveways, roads, parking areas, and anywhere a strong, load-bearing base is needed before adding asphalt, concrete, or other surface materials.

1-1/2" and Smaller

Base aggregate is produced in graded sizes to compact densely and lock together. The designation 1-1/2" and smaller means the top size is about 1.5 inches with a full range of fines down to dust. This blend fills voids, improves stability, and creates a durable foundation for roads, driveways, building pads, and other load-bearing surfaces.

Common Applications

Foundations for Highways and Structures

Creates a dense, load-bearing base that improves long-term stability.

Road Shoulder Stabilization

Reinforces shoulder edges to prevent erosion and rutting.

Unpaved Road Stabilization

Reduces washboarding and improves compaction on gravel roadways.

Driveways

Provides a smooth, compact base layer ready for asphalt or gravel surfacing.

Engineered Backfill

Fills and stabilizes structural areas where compaction and strength matter.

Landscaping Projects

Creates a firm and level base for hardscapes, retaining walls, and site grading.
